I’ve been waiting years to write this — and now that the ribbon is officially cut, I couldn’t be happier to see Crown Point’s brand-new skatepark open to the public.

As someone who grew up skateboarding at the old park that was built 25 years ago, this moment hits close to home. That old slab of concrete is where I spent countless hours with friends, pushing limits, learning tricks, and building a community that shaped who I am today.

Memories from the Old Crown Point Skatepark

The old skatepark wasn’t fancy. The concrete was rough, the ramps were weathered, and every crack told a story. But for us, it was perfect.

I can still picture the long summer days — boards rattling across the pavement, shoes shredded from kickflips, and that familiar sound of trucks grinding against rails we probably shouldn’t have been using. It was raw and real, and it gave us a place to belong.

That park was where I learned persistence. It’s where I made lifelong friends. It was more than a place to skate — it was a cornerstone of growing up in Crown Point.

A New Era for Crown Point Skateboarding

Fast-forward to now: the new Crown Point Skate Park officially opened on October 15, 2025, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Mayor Pete Land and other city officials.

It’s located just south of the Crown Point Sportsplex — perfectly connected to walking and biking paths via the Veterans Memorial Trail — and it’s a massive upgrade from what we had before.

Here are a few highlights:

14,500 square feet of smooth concrete

Flow and peanut bowls designed for both beginners and advanced skaters

A mix of rails, ledges, half-pipes, and combo boxes

Funded in part by a $2.81 million grant from the Dean & Barbara White Family Foundation

Designed and built by the talented team at Hunger Skateparks

This isn’t just a replacement — it’s a statement. It shows that skateboarding belongs in Crown Point. That the city recognizes it as a real sport, a community, and an art form worth investing in.

Why This Park Matters

Honoring the Past

The old park gave us a place to start. The new one gives the next generation a place to grow. It carries the same heart — just with smoother transitions and a whole lot more flow.

Building Community

What excites me most is how this new space brings everyone together. Whether you’re skating, biking, filming, or just watching, the energy is contagious. Parents, kids, athletes — everyone’s welcome here.

Inspiring the Next Generation

For kids learning their first ollie or dropping into a bowl for the first time — this park is where confidence is built. It’s where future skaters, filmmakers, and creators will find their spark.

A Personal Note as a Local Videographer 🎬

I had the chance to film the grand opening of the new skatepark last night, and I’ll be sharing that video below 👇

As a videographer from right here in Crown Point, I love capturing moments like this — where community, creativity, and local pride come together.

I got started in videography because of skateboarding and it has allowed me to see and experience things I never would have imagined as a kid growing up skateboarding and filming at the Crown Point Skatepark.

If you’re a local business looking to showcase your brand, tell your story, or reach your audience with high-quality video marketing, I’d love to help.

Thank You, Crown Point ❤️

To everyone who made this skatepark possible — the city, the donors, the builders, and the skaters who kept the dream alive — thank you.

This park isn’t just concrete. It’s connection, progress, and pride. And for me — it’s a full-circle moment.

See you out there.
